Some people might look at unemployment as a low point. Actually, it is just a matter of perspective. Depending on your stress level, being unemployed can be a very good thing because unemployed people have a lot of time, unemployed people may be money poor but they are time rich. Now your time may be entirely filled with the stress of finding a new job but that won’t take all the hours of your day. You have some hours to pursue those things you left behind. Those hours to read, to walk, to start your own blog or website. To start anything you might have wanted to do, or what you might actually really want to do. You might stumble on your calling. Regulating your mood will be very important when unemployed so you don’t fall into depression. If you are able to, you are in a very good position. Here are some tips on what you can do when you are so time-rich.

Go to the gym at 3am

Hey, you can do whatever you want and if you’re not working you can go any time you like. 3am is the most likely there wont be any people there. Enjoy the space!

Get out of the house

Most importantly you should see people every day. If that is not possible at least get out of the house, go for a drive, go for a walk. This stops you forgetting there is a world out there and thinking you’re stuck in a prison.

Start a creative hobby

Start writing or drawing. With all that time using it wisely is to be recommended. Most probably you wont be in the best state to do lots of useful and creative things, but if you have the energy, write a bit, draw a bit.

Meditate

Turns out that humans are pretty resilient. A little bit of meditation in the morning can really calm you down, ease your spirit and get you through any struggles you might have. Try to meditate outside with your feet touching the ground, or looking up at the stars. Now more than ever its important to stay grounded, meditation will really help with that.

Read

So many books to read, now is your time to read them! See my recommended reading list here.

Learn Something New

Go online and learn a new skill, maybe programming or making websites or data analysis or excel. Udemy has many courses that you can learn new things. Learn a new instrument.

Do Something Everyday

Work on something everyday, maybe its physical: going to the gym. I worked on the splits everyday and I am getting somewhere. These goals will help see you through the hard times.

Try to Build You Social Circle

Go to Meetups. Meet new people. Believe it or not there are Meetups at any time at any location. You might find some near you during the day. Meet some people and cure the loneliness.

Socialize

The single most important thing is to keep as social as possible. Being unemployed can be a lonely time and isolation can have devastating effects. Prioritise creating and maintaining social connections.
