The Most Important Thing Isn’t Your Morning Routine, It’s This

“The thing I’m most proud of in my life was my morning routine!”

In the self-development world there is a huge focus on morning routines.

“Win the morning, win the day!”

There are many, many articles describing the best morning routine. Tim Ferriss and Stefan James for example emphasize the important of a morning routine. Tim often questions very successful people about their morning routines.

Morning routines are important.

I’m not here to dispute this.

There is something more important than your morning routine, though.

It’s what you do most of the time.

It’s the actual work that you do.

Win the morning, win the day — it is just not true. You can win the morning, you can smash the morning, but still fail for the rest of the day.

A morning routine primes you to be in a good state for your work. That is the purpose of a morning routine. To get you in the best mood to do your best work.

Make sure the work that you are doing actually matters to you. Make sure all that priming and energy goes into your own long-term goals in some way. Don’t let all that energy go into the wrong place.
