#MorningBrain

You wake up. Your mind is a haze. All sorts of thoughts are racing through your mind, probably some bad, you’re thinking about what you have to do, and your hand might be subconsciously reaching for your phone…

One thing is for sure, your morning brain doesn’t know what its doing.

The body does habitual things, not the things that are good for us.

Habits make us.

Especially in the morning when we are less fully in control we might see the negative habits that we have.

The first thing you need to know is that you’re morning brain is your friend, but you can’t trust it. In fact, morning brain has to be controlled like an unruly child…

So we have to replace the bad morning habits with good ones. How do we override our morning brains?

  • Make a commitment

The first thing you want to avoid is reaching for your phone in the morning. Nothing switches off your creativity and presence more than that. In the morning its important to be present, if we can’t start the day being present, when can we? It is important to start the day the way we want to live our day and our lives. Therefore practicing presence is the most important in the morning. So make a commitment not to touch your phone for the first half and hour/ hour when you wake up. If you don’t automatically reach for your phone this leaves space and time for other things. The 2 activities I would recommend are meditation and journaling.

  • Set an intention

Wanting to change your mornings is very powerful in itself. The simple intention plants the seed in your mind, and over time this seed manifests into real changes. One morning you may notice you did something you don’t want to do going forward, simply noticing it you may find you change it the next time.

  • Watch Your Thoughts

Your thoughts can run wild in the morning and sometimes can be very negative. Catch yourself in the morning, and replace any thoughts with good ones if you can. For example praising yourself or saying a morning mantra ‘every day and in every way I am getting stronger and stronger’.

How can you improve your mornings?
